Role Introduction

Reports to: Operations Performance & Analytics Manager

Operations Planning (OPN) spearheads integrated and digital operations planning and optimization capabilities within Cathay. The Senior Data Analyst takes a key-role in the analytics component of the cross-divisional operations performance framework and is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a broad range of analytics related initiatives.

The OPN Senior Data Analyst will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to own and deliver high quality analytics, reporting, and insights deliverables across operations planning and broader Cathay operations. The role covers a wide scope of responsibilities including concept and design, data integration, development, and deployment of solutions within an agile framework.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to leverage insights and analytics capabilities in operations, manage the deployment and integration of new technologies, and bring long-term improvements to operational efficiency, performance, schedule resilience, and processes at Cathay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and build advanced analytics solutions for Cathay operations, including dashboards, reports, and ad-hoc analyses. Leverage the operational data lake and tools like Tableau to deliver insights that enhance efficiency and decision-making
  • Collaborate with business streams to define analytical needs, gather process details, and design visualizations. Translate complex business questions into actionable models that support strategic and operational goals
  • Proactively identify and integrate new data sources, expanding data definitions and models. Lead the full lifecycle from data onboarding to governance, testing, and documentation to ensure analytics readiness
  • Serve as a key business stakeholder in analytics infrastructure projects. Partner with IT and Digital teams to enhance tool integration, manage requirements, conduct testing, and support training and rollout
  • Use data-driven insights to support daily operational decisions, maintain situational awareness, and respond to urgent analytics requests from management with speed and precision
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external analytics stakeholders. Lead smaller-scale data initiatives and ensure alignment with business priorities and timelines
  • Design and implement data quality metrics and monitoring processes to uphold high standards of accuracy, consistency, and reliability across analytics outputs
  • Navigate data governance frameworks to ensure timely and compliant integration of valuable data assets. Champion policies that support secure, high-quality data usage across the business

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in the field of data science, operations research, statistics, or other related technical background
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience relating to data & analytics with a good understanding of operations, specific experience in logistics, airlines, or airports is a big plus
  • Strong analytical abilities, numerate and familiar with statistical algorithms, ideally with exposure in developing optimization models
  • Expert in using analytics & query tools with focus on Tableau and Tableau Prep, as well as data modelling techniques
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, ideally Tableau
  • Proficiency in scripting languages e.g., Python, SQL, SAS
  • Curious, meticulous, self-motivated and strong continuous improvement mindset
  • Working knowledge of agile delivery practices
  • Outgoing personality, able to build trust and strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
