Role Introduction

Reports to: Scheduling and Heavy Maintenance Operations Manager

The Senior Planning Engineer - Heavy Maintenace Operations designs and delivers optimized heavy maintenance programs that are precise, compliant, and cost-effective. You will plan and coordinate checks end‑to‑end to keep our people and customers safe, uphold industry‑leading performance, and ensure fleet projects meet plan, budget, and specification.  

In this role, you’ll drive continuous improvement across processes and schedules to maximize aircraft reliability and on-time delivery, contributing to one of the world’s most customer‑centric, high‑performing engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for:  

  • Delivering safe, compliant, and reliable aircraft from heavy maintenance facilities according to schedule and in a cost-effective manner 
  • Ensuring the heavy maintenance check management process, including preparation, control, and progress monitoring, is established and carried out to achieve on-time performance (OTP) objectives 
  • Representing the airline or department in negotiations with Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul provider (MROs), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs), and other external agencies during heavy maintenance periods 
  • Collaborating with Engineering/Operations Planning regarding heavy maintenance and retrofit requirements and coordinating requests for appropriate maintenance slots with MROs 
  • Implementing continuous improvements and efficiencies, particularly addressing significant findings by proposing mitigation measures or solutions to enhance OTP, increase aircraft availability, and reduce overall costs 
  • Maintaining quality and consistency of work packages for both light and heavy checks to ensure adequate preparation and risk mitigation strategies are in place for potential delays and recovery plans 
  • Managing aircraft maintenance labour costs, including setting routine man-hour charges and reviewing non-routine expenses to optimize cost-effectiveness 

Requirements

List requirements for the position: 

  • Engineering degree or Aircraft Maintenance Licence preferred    
  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience, ideally in aircraft or maintenance planning  
  • Solid understanding of maintenance philosophy    
  • Power BI and dashboard knowledge    
  • Proven business process improvement leadership    
  • Strong relationship-building skills with stakeholders    
  • Familiarity with Cathay Pacific maintenance and engineering systems a plus    
  • Willingness to work weekends and public holidays    
  • Candidates with less experience may be considered for Planning Engineer roles
