Role Introduction

Cathay Pacific Airways is looking for a full-time, Regional Engagement, Development and Performance Manager to join the People Team in Vancouver. The successful candidate will create an engaged and high performing culture within all functions and countries within the region. They will also proactively partner with line managers to support them to engage, develop and coach their people as well as delivering high quality training and development into the region.

 

High Performance Culture

  • Own performance management and effectiveness
  • Build capability for performance management within the region’s line managers
  • Provide leadership training, coaching and support for managers on a 1:1 and group level
  • Proactively support line managers with performance improvement plans, coaching and formal performance management as required
  • Draw upon centrally provided people frameworks and strategies to provide tools, guidelines and training to the people specialists to support local teams
  • Support line managers through alignment and consistency of performance management including managing the annual calibration process within the region to ensure a clear link to pay at year end
  • Conduct exit interviews with senior or regretted losses and analyse exit interview and turnover data on a regular basis to identify trends and issues that can be improved upon

Line Manager Capability and Leadership Development

  • Proactively provide line manager support and coaching to build an engaged and productive team
  • Support performance improvement cases and help with formal performance management processes as a Subject Matter Expert and coach
  • Utilise central leadership development materials and frameworks to deliver local leadership development activities including training courses, micro training delivery, coaching sessions, drop-in sessions and other initiatives to support line managers’ capability
  • Ensure a leadership induction programme for newly promoted supervisors is in place and is delivered in a timely and engaging manner
  • Identify innovative ways to deliver line manager coaching and training and support remotely and with use of technology

Talent Attraction and Employer Branding

  • Support the Regional Talent Acquisition Lead to ensure a professional, brand enhancing candidate experience through all recruitment and selection cycle touch points across the region
  • Be directly involved in recruitment and selection of senior roles to ensure the best candidate is hired
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and processes related to sourcing, recruiting, selection, promotion, transfer and on-boarding

Key Responsibilities

People Development

  • Ensure a local induction is in place for new hires (Brushwingers) in a timely and engaging manner, regulatory training is completed and monitor Brushwingers’ completion for eLearning and other safety or induction related training
  • Facilitate the delivery of centrally designed training programmes within the local teams in an effective and engaging way
  • Conduct regular Training Needs Analysis for all functions and for each country to support the regional teams to perform better
  • Ensure that the Training Needs Analysis includes Ground Handling Agent and General Sales Agent employees as appropriate to help ensure Cathay training programmes are effectively delivered in markets and address key performance issues
  • Develop and deliver targeted local training for functions – identifying skills gaps and opportunities to improve performance through people development
  • Submit the training budget for functional and regulatory training to People International in a timely and accurate manner
  • Generate reports for training completion to help Country Managers to understand training status as required
  • Identify opportunities for local government funding and support for training initiatives in each market and partner with the local people team to secure these opportunities
  • Measure effectiveness of training efforts drawing upon central tools and methodology
  • Work with The Learning Academy to suggest ideas and best practices and provide feedback on how global initiatives are aligned with the local context

Career Planning

  • Identify talent within the region and lead the Team Talent Review processes including training nominations and communication with talent on course nomination and development plans
  • Ensure that regional Succession Planning is regularly conducted and documented (at least annually)
  • Manage identified talent for succession and ensure they are on track with their plans and liaise with line managers to assess the flight risk / retention initiatives
  • Identify the requirements for formal career path planning or development journeys within the region, for example, regional development programmes, rotation programmes, cross training and implement accordingly
  • Identify key ‘at risk’ or ‘business critical’ roles and ensure that there are plans for coverage in case of absence or turnover
  • Understand turnover statistics for the region and support country leadership to address turnover issues through a variety of measures
  • Conduct focus groups in high attrition teams to understand issues and problem solve

Engagement

  • Develop and execute a Regional Engagement Plan that suits the business culture and needs including links to global engagement programmes, events and initiatives
  • Partner with the global engagement teams and community to suggest ideas and best practices and provide feedback on how global initiatives are fitting into local context
  • Contribute to global communication and engagement activities to ensure they are fit for purpose for the market
  • Develop and implement local recognition programmes to suit the needs of the local teams
  • Drive Work Well Done campaigns and Betsy nominations across the region
  • Design and deliver Ground Handling Agent and General Sales Agent recognition programmes as necessary to drive a service culture
  • Promote and nurture a strong customer service mind-set and culture within all teams

  • Emergency and Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required

Requirements

Academic Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in Human Resources or related field is required
  • Certificates in adult education / training delivery (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in HR or closely related area
  • Practical experience in business partnership
  • Demonstrably superior communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience in training design and delivery
  • Practical experience in leading a team across multiple locations
  • High energy and motivational style
  • Confident in conducting engagement events
  • Ability to influence a team environment

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass reference checks
  • Must be willing and able to sit for long periods of time
  • Must be willing to attend calls with Hong Kong colleagues after normal business hours, as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel within North America and overseas, if required
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned and necessary
