Role Introduction

Reports to: Associate General Counsel    

The Group Legal and Compliance (GLC) department provides the Group with sound and pragmatic advice on legal issues. Our team handles a range of commercial, corporate, employment law, data privacy, competition law and regulatory matters. We handle litigation and regulatory and investigations which involve the Group. We also develop and implement Cathay’s compliance policies and programmes, including competition, anti-bribery, sanctions and data privacy.

As the paralegal, you will provide comprehensive support within the Group Legal and Compliance department. This role involves support to the Corporate & Compliance team on a broad range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters, including projects, transactions, knowledge management, research and other legal administration work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct multi-jurisdictional legal research, prepare analyses on relevant laws, regulations, emerging risks and market practices
  • Lead regulatory developments monitoring, establish risk tools / create compliance trackers and prepare business-ready updates
  • Autonomously provide recommendations and advice to the business on enquiries regarding standard corporate, regulatory and compliance matters
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required, including regulatory bodies. Manage legal and regulatory correspondence, to ensure appropriate policy implementation
  • Lead legal knowledge management project, develop knowhow database, including creation of guidance material, regulatory playbooks and precedents
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance sub-teams to facilitate training programmes, drive awareness campaigns, and develop communications to promote compliance
  • Support ad hoc projects, transactions and other general corporate, regulatory and compliance work
  • Identify and deploy digital compliance initiatives, evaluate and enhance compliance processes and workflows
  • Manage legal operations, external legal services and related administration (including budgeting, legal costs reporting and analytics)
  • Organise and maintain department records, coordinate events, meetings and other team administration. Provide secretarial and administrative support to the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university, preferably in law, risk management, accounting/audit or other related discipline
  • A minimum of 7 years working experience as a legal executive, paralegal, secretary or similar role with strong project/process/stakeholder experience, with excellent communication skills and ability to work flexibly and on multiple tasks. Legal, regulatory, or compliance related experience would be an advantage
  • Strong planning, research, organisational and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail and integrity to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, office applications (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and SharePoint)
