Role Introduction

Reports to: Head of IT Platforms

Lead the way Cathay thinks about cloud value by shaping and advancing its Financial Operations (FinOps) practice across the organisation. This role sits at the intersection of technology, finance and business, focusing on better decision-making, accountability and outcomes rather than deep specialisation in a single domain.

Working with IT teams, finance partners and management, the role drives practical adoption of FinOps frameworks, tools and ways of working. Success is measured not by theoretical maturity, but by changed behaviours — clearer cost transparency, more informed trade-offs, and stronger alignment between financial goals and IT delivery.

Through visible advocacy, coaching and community leadership, this role builds confidence and capability across a virtual network of FinOps Champions, embedding FinOps naturally into existing IT and digital planning processes and helping Cathay realise sustained value from its cloud investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of FinOps methodologies, frameworks, processes, and tools, with a strong focus on adoption, practicality, and stakeholder engagement rather than theoretical perfection.  Participate in internal communications, and knowledge-sharing sessions as a visible and credible FinOps advocate.
  • Serve as a key driver of change management for FinOps initiatives—helping FinOps Champions virtual team shift mindset, behaviours, and decision-making around cloud consumption and value realization.
  • Translate financial and technical concepts into clear, practical insights that resonate with a wide range of stakeholders, including IT teams, finance partners, and management.
  • Identify good practices, industry trends, and emerging concepts in FinOps and cloud economics, and adapt them pragmatically for the Cathay environment.
  • Contribute to quality management frameworks covering cost transparency, awareness, optimization, and governance—keeping them lightweight and outcome-oriented.
  • Provide advisory, coaching, and consulting support to FinOps Champions through the FinOps Community Checkins —guiding them on how to think, not just what to do.
  • Train and empower FinOps Champions, fostering a community-driven approach that encourages ownership, feedback, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with IT Digital Planning and other IT teams and practices to ensure FinOps is embedded naturally into existing processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience in the relevant practice and at least 10 years of overall IT experience, with solid knowledge of end-to-end project delivery, system lifecycles, and methodologies; vendor management experience is a plus.
  • Degree qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems or related disciplines.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated learning agility and willingness to develop new skills quickly
  • Passion for change management, transformation, and practice building
  • Experience working in or closely with IT, finance, project management functions
  • Understanding of financial concepts such as budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, or business case evaluation (hands-on accounting expertise not required)
  • Prior involvement in transformation initiatives, practice setup, or cross-functional programs is highly valued
  • Exposure to IT or cloud environments or technology-driven cost management is a plus
