Role Introduction

Maintain and advance the hybrid technology platforms that power a global airline. This role sits at the heart of Cathay’s Information Technology organisation, ensuring cloud and on‑premise infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and ready to support critical business operations.

Day to day, work spans Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and on‑premise platforms, covering storage, backup, server operating systems, middleware, and infrastructure‑as‑a‑service environments. The scope is both operational and improvement‑driven—proactively patching and monitoring systems, managing change, resolving complex incidents, and shaping infrastructure lifecycle decisions alongside architecture and strategy teams.

The work directly protects business continuity, from disaster recovery readiness to performance monitoring and automation. By applying deep technical expertise and disciplined IT service management practices, this role helps Cathay operate with confidence, efficiency, and resilience—keeping essential journeys moving, even when conditions are at their most demanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, patch, monitor, and support hybrid information technology infrastructure across cloud and on‑premise platforms.
  • Manage infrastructure updates and changes to ensure systems meet security, stability, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure architecture teams to support technology lifecycle planning and roadmap alignment.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution, ensuring platform redundancy and resilience.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and usage, proposing and implementing improvements to operational efficiency.
  • Resolve complex tier‑3 incidents, performing root cause analysis and driving permanent fixes.
  • Plan, schedule, and implement business‑as‑usual changes within hybrid computing environments in line with ITIL practices.
  • Design and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to maintain system uptime and performance.
  • Communicate infrastructure designs, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to stakeholders, project managers, and delivery partners.
  • Collaborate across information technology domains and with vendors to drive infrastructure innovation and reliable delivery.

Requirements

  • Technical degree holder with a minimum of 6 years’ overall IT experience, including at least 3 years in IT infrastructure roles.
  • Proven hands‑on experience working in a complex hybrid IT infrastructure environment.
  • Strong technical experience across storage, backup, server operating systems, and middleware components.
  • Proficient understanding of cloud infrastructure services, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud and server platforms, including UNIX (AIX or Solaris), Linux, Windows, virtualisation technologies (such as VMware ESX or other hypervisors), and automation tools (e.g. Red Hat Ansible).
  • Practical experience with cloud services and monitoring tools, including AWS EC2, Azure Virtual Machines, and Amazon CloudWatch.
  • Hands‑on experience with storage and backup technologies, including AWS Backup, Azure VM Backup, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake Storage, and AWS FSx for ONTAP.
  • Experience administering SAN and NAS storage environments, including Fibre Channel SAN fabrics, FC and iSCSI storage, and enterprise storage platforms.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a technical team, with ITIL framework and process knowledge preferred, and willingness to provide 24/7 support as required.
