Job Requirements

  • Right of abode in Hong Kong
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or any related discipline that demonstrates your exposure to technology
  • Strong academic results
  • Business acumen and excellent analytical skills
  • Adaptable to cope with a dynamic, diversified and multi-cultural working environment
  • Team player and able to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin is preferred but not required

Graduate Engineer Programme

Engineering is the cornerstone of Cathay Pacific’s operation. Our team of ambitious, passionate and experienced engineers and work together with industry-leading experts to ensure that we maintain our reputation as one of the best and safest airlines in the world.


About the Programmes

One profession, Two Programmes- depending on your career ambition & aptitude, our Graduate programmes will train and develop you either into a professional engineer managing technical aspects of our fleet, or a licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer embedded in our frontline maintenance team.

  1. Graduate Engineer Programme

    Our two-year, HKIE Scheme A-accredited Graduate Engineer Programme exposes you to our airlines’ engineering operations and cutting edge aviation technologies on one of the industry’s youngest and most sophisticated fleets. Through rotations in different Engineering functions, technical training and hands on experiences on the shop floor, we will build your foundation towards a career as professional engineer & Corporate Membership with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

  2. Operational Graduate Engineer Programme

    The 3-year Structured Training Programme will provide you with the training and experience required towards obtaining a HKAR-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence, through rotations on key operational roles within our Engineering department and practical training in a Hong Kong approved Maintenance and Repair Organisation, as well as a Cathay Pacific Line Station overseas to gain practical experience.

Please note, subject to operational needs and work patterns associated with various training assignments, on occasion you will have to work on shifts.


Personal Development

You will be provided a comprehensive mix of technical and professional skills training. You will spend time learning basic maintenance theories and fleet-specific knowledge, and professional skills training supported by The Learning Academy, Cathay Pacific’s centre for learning & development, and our Technical Training School. You will be mentored by members of senior management, guiding you to grow on your competencies & towards your professional goals.

After the Programme

Upon completion of either programme, you will specialise in one of our our Operations or Programmes area, as an associate engineer, placing you well for further development and picking up new competnecies towards a rewarding engineering career, and beyond should you show the ability to take on further challenges.

What are we looking for?

  • You are passionate about aviation
  • You have strong academic results
  • You have a Right of Abode in Hong Kong
  • You have an excellent command of both written and spoken English. Mandarin is preferred but not required

Specific Requirements for Graduate Engineer Programme

  • You have a HKIE Aircraft Discipline recognised or Washington Accord accredited degree
  • You are adaptable to cope with a dynamic, diversified and multi-cultural working environment

Specific Requirements for Operational Graduate Engineer Programme

  • You have a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Aircraft, Aerospace or Aeronautical or Mechanical discipline
  • Candidates who have taken and passed the necessary HKAR-66 module examinations or received a HKAR-147 Certificate of Recognition for category B1.1 or B2 will have an advantage
  • You are motivated for a career in frontline Aircraft Maintenance Operations

Swire Management Programme

The objective of the Swire Management Programme is to develop high performance, high potential individuals into business leaders who share a common set of values. On the Programme, you’ll have the option to explore different industries, functions, countries and cultures while having the flexibility to hone your skills and gain experience in the areas that interest you most. With frequent job rotations and extensive training and development support, you’ll never stop learning.

What we offer

  • Job rotations - Whether you have ambitions to become CEO of one of our companies, an industry expert or functional expert, we’ll work with you to tailor your development on the Programme. Every few years, you’ll experience job rotations which will be driven by business needs, but also take into consideration your preferences and aspirations. In the first 5 years the rotations may be quite frequent but as the roles become bigger you will spend more time in the role. Depending on the Operating Company you work in, the type of roles that you’ll get exposure to and the geographic mobility will vary. Opportunities to move across operating companies are also available.
  • Training and development - We offer a comprehensive mix of experiential leadership training, industry-specific technical skills training, and individualised functional and language training. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend training at renowned business schools such as INSEAD in Singapore and France. You’ll benefit from mentoring by our senior leaders who will provide you with an objective, independent and unbiased source of support and guidance. You’ll also have a dedicated Career Coach who will support you as you work towards your career aspirations. We also have rigorous Development Centres and 360 assessments in place to enable your development and success.
  • Career progression - For the first three years, you’ll be a Management Trainee and, thereafter, provided you have what it takes, you will become a Swire Management Programme Executive. The stronger your performance and potential, the faster you will progress on our Programme. We encourage and promote a high performance culture, with rewards and recognition in place to differentiate.
  • Compensation and benefits - The Swire Management Programme offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package with a monthly starting salary of HKD31,000. If you're based in Hong Kong, you will be provided with company housing for the first three years or a cash allowance of HKD12,500. You’ll then receive a cash allowance in subsequent years. If you're based outside Hong Kong, you will be provided with company housing or a cash allowance. We also offer a leave passage allowance, an attractive bonus, medical coverage, a retirement benefit scheme and additional perks unique to Swire!

What we look for

  • You have the business and commercial acumen, as well as the ambition, to develop into a senior leader with Swire.
  • Strong initiative and enterprise.
  • Geographic mobility will be expected. Swire Management Programme Executives will spend most of their time working in HKSAR and the Chinese mainland but may also be required to work in other countries where our businesses operate. The extent of travel outside HKSAR will depend on which industry/operating company you work in.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and learning agility.
  • Strong leadership potential and interpersonal skills, a good team player.
  • Culturally sensitive and quickly adaptable to new roles and situations.
  • Strong academic track record: you have or are expecting an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2.1/GPA 3.0 out of 4.0; and a high level of numeracy and literacy.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (minimum HKDSE 5, TOEFL 80, TOEIC 750 or equivalent).
  • Other language skills are an advantage, especially Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese).
  • Previous work experience, internships and overseas experience are a plus.

Engineering Internship

Our seven-week summer internship programme offers you the chance to gain invaluable exposure to the aviation industry that can give you a competitive edge and help get your career off to a flying start. With us you will get a taste of how the Engineering Department of a world-class airline carrier operates, as well as the chance to tour exciting aircraft and learn how aircraft flight systems work. Visits to our 24-hour Integrated Operations Centre and HAECO (may not be available due to COVID situation), our maintenance and repair organisation, will ensure that you gain a good understanding of what it takes to deliver safe, compliant and reliable aircraft.

Digital & IT Internship

We offer students an exciting and unique opportunity to develop their professional skills with valuable hands-on, real-time experience. As a Digital & IT Intern at Cathay Pacific, you're more than a student — you're a member of our dynamic Digital & IT team.

During the seven-week internship, you will join one of the following departments:

Not only will you gain practical hands-on work experience to work on game-changing projects – in an ever-changing aviation environment with the latest technologies,  you will also receive on-going opportunities to network and interact with managers and collaborate with IT and digital professionals.
