Role Introduction

To ensure Cathay attracts, selects and brings on board the right people for our operations and the Cathay culture, whilst providing an excellent candidate experience. 

To be an expert in recruitment and the Cathay selection processes, tools and techniques and have a strong ability to support line managers with excellent selection decisions and nurture talent through the recruitment and selection process. 

Key Responsibilities

Talent Attraction and Employer Branding

- Execute a professional, brand enhancing candidate experience through all recruitment and selection cycle touch-points

- Act as brand ambassador for the airlines, promoting employee value proposition and inspiring candidates to apply for positions and accept opportunities

- Assist in development and implementation of policies, procedures and processes related to sourcing, recruiting, selection, promotion, transfer and on-boarding

- Participate in HR / talent acquisition projects as required

Recruitment and Selection Process Excellence

- Manage end to end recruitment and selection processes from discussing requirements with hiring managers and developing commercially focused, brand enhancing initiatives, job advertisement creation, sourcing, screening, selecting, offer and onboarding

- Be the expert in recruitment tools and processes to ensure high quality of candidate experience and professionalism including the adoption of new tools and technology aligned with the global talent acquisition strategy

- Conduct effective and timely shortlisting to ensure the most suitable candidates are seen by hiring managers

- Effectively prioritise different roles and ensure that time to fill is measured and optimised

- Design and conduct interview and assessment centres

- Administer and interpret psychometric tests and provide insights to hiring managers

- Conduct a targeted search for key roles as required

- Coordinate recruitment and selection activity for all applicable overseas hires or internal transfers and secondments

- Ensure background checks are conducted in a compliant manner

- Conduct reference checking via phone to ensure the quality of hires and risk minimisation

- Lead offer process, including salary negotiation

- Manage internal promotion and progression programs and activities as required

- Be the expert in local legislation regarding recruitment and selection processes including discrimination and data privacy regulations

Line Manager Development and Support

- Review job descriptions and ensure that job advertisement is posted in an effective, clear and appealing manner

- Provide a sounding board on candidate performance and cultural fit

- Provide a factual, impartial and fair assessment of candidates

Candidate Experience

- Proactively build relationships and strengthen our employer branding in the region to attract the right talent

- Identify employer brand building opportunities

- Manage talent pools to help improve pipeline of talent for future which may include alumni efforts, university or school engagements, and internships


- Ensure that onboarding process is delivered in the local context to bring the Cathay brand to life

- Manage and administer the Brushwinger platform to ensure it adds value to Brushwingers

- Check in Brushwingers after 90 days to provide support and advice if needed

- Ensure all onboarding administration is completed and well documented

High Performance Culture & Performance and Rewards

- Own performance management and effectiveness

- Build capability for performance management within the region’s line managers

- Provide leadership training, coaching and support for managers on a 1:1 and group level

- Proactively support line managers with performance improvement plans, coaching and formal performance management as required

- Draw upon centrally provided people frameworks and strategies to provide tools, guidelines and training to the people specialists to support local teams

- Support line managers through alignment and consistency of performance management including managing the annual calibration process within the region to ensure a clear link to pay at year end

- Conduct exit interviews with senior or regretted losses and analyse exit interview and turnover data on a regular basis to identify trends and issues that can be improved upon

- Collaborate closely with Regional Head of People, SEA People team and Head Office to review employees’ compensation details to ensure alignment to market.

- Provide attrition and pay compensation analysis for understanding of internal vs external market conditions.

- Translate complex frameworks and concepts to stakeholders and teams to ensure principles are well understood so as to drive a pay for performance culture


- Emergency and Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required


Academic Qualifications

  • A tertiary degree in Human Resources or a related field is an advantage

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in recruitment and selection processes in a cross country environment
  • Airline experience is an advantage
  • Strong cultural sensitivity with high cross cultural communication ability
  • Demonstrably good judgment and ability to remain impartial
  • Knowledge of legislation related to recruitment and selection
  • Knowledge of compensation and benefits concepts and frameworks
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Efficient and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and management ability
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • A high degree of technological ability
