Position: Regional Head of Finance - Americas

Reports to: Senior Vice President, Americas

Cathay Pacific Airways is looking for a Full Time Regional Head of Finance, Americas based in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will play a critical role in effectively leading and developing the regional Finance Team while ensuring robust controls and compliance of all financial matters through the region. This individual will also provide appropriate financial advice and analysis to respective regional and local business unit managers. Most importantly, this senior business partner will foster an innovative environment that leads to positive and continuous improvement culture which drives process efficiency and implement changes in the region, while collaborating with other Regional Heads of Finance and Hong Kong as necessary.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Regional Management

  • Responsibility for finance related operations for the Americas region (and all countries within) including:
    • Ensuring full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (legal, taxation, and regulatory reporting)
    • Maintaining robust internal controls and performing risk assessments as required
    • Management and financial reporting
    • Budgeting, forecasting, and continuous cost control
    • Credit control of different types of agents
    • Banking, treasury, and cash management
    • Payroll, including union and non-union in Canada, USA, and Mexico
    • Financial related administration and supplier management
    • Business advisory, support and process improvement
  • Oversee changes to the evolving finance structure for the region, ensuring reporting lines are optimized, best practices are put in place and shared service functions are effectively utilized
  • Provide direction, guidance, and support to the local Finance team to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks as necessary
  • Ensure steps are taken to remain fully up to date on legislation, taxation and compliance matters and, where necessary, intervene to make decisions and help resolve regulatory or compliance issues
  • Support expansion within the Americas in new countries and ports through research and set-up of the business and tax requirements in these regions
  • Update regional management and Head Office on new local requirements which may give rise to changes in risk exposure and/or changes in working procedures
  • Actively participate in discussions with local authorities and/or external working groups where needed
  • Work effectively with Head Office to implement Head Office Finance initiatives and deliver on central Finance strategies and guidance
  • Proactively work to identify efficiencies and more effective ways of working and actively work with Head Office and the Finance teams and other departments to implement and standardize continuous improvements
  • Manage relationships with local business partners, such as banks, external auditors, pension administrator, insurance brokers and tax advisors
  • Liaise with Head Office Group Legal Team and external legal advisors for local legal matters as and when required
  • Emergency and Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required
  • Any other reasonable task as required

Academic qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or related discipline
  • Charter Professional Accountant designation

Knowledge, skills, training and experience

  • A minimum of ten years’ Finance / Accounting experience
  • Experience in the airline industry is an advantage
  • Experience in SAP is an advantage
  • A minimum of six years experiences in leading a high-performance team
  • Sound understanding of business practices in the region (prior experience in the USA, Mexico, and South America is considered an advantage)
  • Advanced understanding of the principles of operational accounting, the ability to apply these to meet local country regulations within the region
  • Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional payroll including taxation and withholding requirements
  • Admirable interpersonal skills and can interact with all levels within the organization
  • Creative and innovative with experience in improving current work practices and implementing new ideas
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and organizational skills and is able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously across multiple locations
  • Strong written, oral communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and diplomacy
  • Leads, adapts to and embraces constant change
