Finance Manager - Business Intelligence & Reporting

Reports to: Head of Financial Accounting

This role will provide holistic support on the development and maintenance of reporting capabilities for the Finance Department across a wide portfolio of management reports, KPIs and analysis. He/she will possess a strong commercial sense, a desire for quality and improvements, with a keen attention to detail and interest in reporting, data and systems. The role will also entail regular monthly reporting duties for a variety of group/company level reports and presentations as well as report improvement initiatives and the goal of moving the Finance Function to develop into a best of class reporting capability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Issue monthly management reports and provide summary and detailed financial analysis and insightful commentary for various stakeholders including Shareholders and Directors
  • Execute the vision and strategy for the Finance reporting landscape through leveraging new technology, existing functionalities and best practices
  • Manage the overall integrity across various levels of reporting for Finance, including managing a comprehensive set of data integrity checks and reconciliations to ensure consistency and completeness of financial data and analysis across different levels of company reporting, multiple sources of information and historical data 
  • Develop expertise in the Finance Department on reporting systems and databases used 
  • Lead and coordinate report and database improvement activities for Finance, including system upgrades, report enhancements, new reporting layers, system changes, flat file uploads and interface feeds
  • Design, build and refine reports, with an awareness and understanding of underlying cost allocation logic and data structures
  • Develop a sound and holistic understanding of underlying commercial drivers affecting the performance of Cathay Pacific
  • Proactively work with a wide range of stakeholders in formalizing, maintaining and refining policies, procedures, definitions, rules, hierarchies and allocations necessary for the clear interpretation and comparability of financial data for users
  • Lead and facilitate training on report usage across Finance user groups 
  • Assist in other ad hoc duties as required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or related discipline
  • Qualified Accountant (CPA or equivalent) as must and audit experience with a recognised audit firm preferred
  • 7 years' relevant accounting experience with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in a supervisory role
  • Strong leadership qualities with an ability to manage direct and indirect reports
  • Experience and strong bias towards trusted, digestible, insightful and timely presentation of management accounting data (from board to operational level), effectively using technology
  • Exceptional skills in MS Excel (Macros advantageous)
  • Experience in using SAP advantageous (S4, BW, BI, BI Analysis for Office, Fiori and SAP Analytics for Cloud)
  • Experience in using other BI Reporting tools advantageous (QlikView, QikSense, Power BI or Tableau)
  • Effective problem solving skills with an analytical mind set
  • Proven planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and presentation
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English (fluency in Cantonese required and Mandarin a plus), with a proven ability to convey insightful and informative reports 
  • Strong appetite to learn, with an ability & desire to understand the underlying commercial aspects of the relevant business units, willing to challenge the status quo and improve work processes
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, independently as well as an effective team player
