Budget & Forecast Manager

Role Introduction

Reports to: Head of Corporate Performance

The Budget and Forecast Manager is in charge of the Group consolidated budget (3-year plan) and business forecasting.  This role is required to look at the Group’s finances with a critical eye and try to spot data anomalies, trends or deviations.  He or she must be able to clearly explain financial details and concepts in layman terms to busy executives and be able to supply senior management with a clear projection of the Group’s financials.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Lead a team for the overall preparation of the Group consolidated budget (and 3-year plan) and forecast exercise. Coordinate workflow and communication among the various teams/BUs, subsidiaries and associates.
  • Propose budget and forecast assumptions for approval by Budget Committee and liaise with Swire Pacific on the proposed assumptions.
  • Ensure the consistency of various reports and budget/forecast templates to be used by BUs, subsidiaries and associates. Continuously improve the quality and relevance of the reports/templates to facilitate financial analysis
  • Continually seek to improve the use of IT systems to drive efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of budget and forecast
  • Coordinate the preparation of relevant information and reports for the Budget Committee and attend budget meetings
  • Involve in the maintenance and improvement of the KPI framework, financial scorecard and financial targets for budget and forecast purpose
  • Analyse monthly performance and liaise with the various finance teams to propose realistic revenue and cost targets, then measure these targets against actual performances
  • Perform various analysis on budget and forecast to help form commercial recommendation to increase cost efficiency and reduce revenue leakage
  • Preparation of presentation and reports and Budget Commentary for Board approval
  • Liaise with Swire Pacific on CX Group budget assumptions and submissions, provide relevant information for Swire Corporate Performance Review
  • Continuously review and improve the budget and forecast process

Staff Development and Performance Management 

  • Work with department heads to assess staff competency and potential
  • Design and conduct internal development programmes as appropriate
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate training/development courses
  • Ensure managers are skilled in setting performance standards and providing constructive feedback and coaching sessions
  • Monitor the Performance Appraisal process and its effectiveness
Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (CPA or equivalent) & audit experience with a recognised audit firm,
  • Minimum 7 years' relevant accounting experience with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in supervisory role,
  • Strong leadership qualities with an ability to manage small teams of direct reports
  • Effective problem solving skills with an analytical mind set
  • Proven planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication and presentation
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English (fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin a plus), with a proven ability to convey insightful and informative reports
  • Strong appetite to learn, with an ability & desire to understand the underlying commercial aspects of the relevant business units, willing to challenge the status quo and improve work processes
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, independently as well as an effective team player
  • Strong skills in MS Office applications, especially in Excel
  • Experience in using SAP advantageous
