Role Introduction

Reports to: Aircraft Procurement and Trading Manager

The Aircraft Trading division of the Procurement and Aircraft Trading Team (APD) is responsible for key supplier relationships between the group airlines and aircraft manufacturers, aircraft operating lessors, flight simulator manufacturers and flight training providers, as well as end-of-life aircraft retirement and disposal activities. The team's scope covers new and existing business activities and requires involvement and coordination with internal and external stakeholders through all stages of product and service evaluation, acquisition, negotiation and contracting along with longer term contract and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the furtherance and development of key supplier relationships on behalf of group airlines (Cathay Pacific Airways (passenger and cargo), HK Express, Air Hong Kong) with major aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, as well as simulator manufacturers and flight training providers
  • Day-to-day management of the sourcing, procurement, negotiation and contracting of support and services from aircraft manufacturers, simulator manufacturers and flight training providers across all categories in close coordination with the responsible Aircraft Trading and Procurement Manager
  • Taking the lead in coordinating internal and external stakeholders, especially the airline’s engineering, flight operations and finance functions, in the identification and evaluation of competing product and service offerings
  • Active participation in the development and implementation of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) sourcing strategies to support the in-service fleet of aircraft and simulators
  • Accountability, alongside the responsible Aircraft Trading and Procurement Manager, for value extraction from the supplier relationship management process, contributing to cross-functional category strategies
  • Ensuring key supplier performance is tracked and coordinating regular business review meetings to make sure key suppliers remain accountable for their quality and performance
  • Identification and delivery of year-on-year value and procurement savings. Management of outsourced procurement activities and remote teams as required
  • Contract and supplier relationship management of certain OEM support and services contracts and flight training arrangements throughout their duration
  • Advising the business on the latest market developments in aircraft support and services offerings as well as industry trends across both passenger and cargo businesses

  • Strong commercial and technical acumen in aviation and ability to evaluate competing product and service offers in support of decision making processes, including identifying and mitigating risk exposure for the group
  • Ability to think beyond established practices and champion new ideas and ways of working
  • Excellent people, organisation and presentation skills, high energy and perseverence, including the ability to work with complex subject matter then negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in contract management and negotiation and ability to express oneself verbally and in writing, identifying and mitigating risk exposure for the group
  • Good knowledge of the major aircraft manufacturers, simulator and flight training provider market players and product and service offerings, as well as airline requirements generally
  • University graduate. Demonstrated educational and/or recent relevant vocational experience in complex aviation technical, engineering, maintenance and technology domains with at least five years of relevant industry experience
  • Solid comprehension of procurement methodology and processes. Prior experience with the Ariba procurement platform will be a distinct advantage for this role
  • Approachable and decisive with high attention to quality and detail and a proven track record of performance.  Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
