From Indonesia to the Skies: Naela’s Journey Beyond Her Comfort Zone
Growing up in Indonesia, Naela was always curious about the world beyond her hometown. That sense of adventure eventually led her to Hong Kong, where she began a new chapter as a Cathay flight attendant. She still remembers her very first flight as a child, which happened to be with Cathay – a meaningful early memory that would later inspire her to pursue a career in the skies.
Supporting Our People, On the Ground and In the Air
Joining as an overseas employee meant more than learning safety procedures and service standards. It also meant adapting to a new city, a new routine, and a new way of life. Like many colleagues arriving in Hong Kong for the first time, Naela felt overwhelmed in the beginning. What made the difference was the care and support she received along the way. At Cathay, helping our people grow also means helping them feel welcomed, supported, and at home.
A Sense of Purpose: Caring for Every Passenger
For Naela, being cabin crew means being someone passengers can rely on throughout their journey. That sense of responsibility guides the way she approaches every flight. She recalls one passenger who felt unwell in his seat: “I invited him to spend some time in the galley, where we chatted and helped him feel more comfortable. Seeing him relax and enjoy the rest of his journey brought me great satisfaction.” Experiences like this have strengthened her empathy, awareness, and communication skills, helping her anticipate passengers’ needs and offer thoughtful care when it matters most.
Take the Leap: Begin Your Own Cathay Journey
Compared with her previous work experience in Indonesia, Naela's journey as a cabin crew member has broadened her horizons in ways she never expected. Each flight offers the chance to work alongside colleagues from different cultures and connect with people from around the world, while discovering new destinations along the way. Her message to anyone thinking about joining the cabin crew team is simple: “Don’t let your starting point define your destination.” With the courage to step beyond your comfort zone and embrace new possibilities, you can create a career journey that is truly your own.
